AN increase of lesser criminal incidents at sea were reported between January and May in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and in the Singapore Strait totalling 49 shipboard thefts and burglaries.

But the anti-piracy Singapore-based ReCAAP (Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia) reported no incidents of armed robbery or acts of piracy during the period under review.
Some 15 lesser offences occurred in the Singapore Strait, with 12 occurring eastbound in the Traffic Separation Scheme and one in the westbound, reported the Singapore-based ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre.
The inter-governmental ReCAAP (Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia) said it is worried about the presence of shipboard incidents while transiting the Singapore Strait.
