GERMAN shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd has announced a SPD (Local Supplementary Charge, destination) July 1 on cargo at the Port of Durban arriving without 24-hour prior notification of pre-arranged onward passage.

"In order to support Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) with the earliest possible clearance of import containers, please be advised that Hapag-Lloyd will implement the SPD on any import container not assigned to a transporter prior discharge," said the Hapag-Lloyd advisory.
The charge will be ZAR1,156 (US$67.12), ZAR1,734 and ZAR2,308
Hapag-Lloyd requires release documents to be provided 24 hours prior vessel berthing in order to have transporter details assigned.
"This decision has been taken in order to provide a better experience for all concerned and the charge will be implemented effective July 1, 2020 for all trades (excluding USA and other US territories) and July 18, 2020 for USA and other US territories, valid until further notice.
