China’s Yangzijiang has won four new orders worth $102m for two LNG-tank carriers and two 56,000-dwt bulk carriers, bringing the shipbuilder’s total new orders so far in 2020 to $517m.

Tiger Gas placed the order for the pair of LNG-tank carriers, with options for eight more, while Shanghai Ganglu Shipping booked the bulk carriers.
Yangzijiang said the LNG-tank carriers will be jointly designed by Yangzijiang and Tiger Gas with a focus on environmental protection and energy efficiency features. The ships will be fitted with dual-fuel engines, capable of carrying heavylift cargo for both Yangzi River and ocean-going.

The first LNG-tank carrier is scheduled to be delivered in early-2022.
The pair of 56,000-dwt bulkers, on the other hand, will be utilised in the transportation of domestic trade in China, and they will be designed by Shanghai Merchant Ship Design & Research Institute.
The bulk carriers are scheduled to be delivered by March 2022 to Shanghai Ganglu.
Ren Letian, executive chairman and ceo of Yangzijiang, said the recent order wins by the company reflected the significance of having a good reputation and strong foothold in the Chinese shipbuilding market, especially amid the market disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As an operational update, our work divisions have been running on extended shifts where possible, achieving major milestones in shipbuilding,” Ren said.
