Valenciaport's box volume continues to grow for the fifth month in a row

THE Spanish port of Valenciaport has announced the handling of close to half a million TEU in September, as the port continues its fifth month in history in recording year-on-year growth.

Last month's volume of 477,194 TEU was up 12.2 per cent year on year but down from the historic high of 503,482 TEU seen in August this year, according to Seatrade Maritime News, Colchester, UK.
Valenciaport attributed the higher volumes to increased export and import activities, pointing to a recovery in trade with the worst of the Covid-19 crisis being over.
The port added that its connectivity and international competitiveness have helped its growth. In 2019, Valenciaport had commercial connections with 915 ports across 168 countries, and the port was operated with 98 regular lines managed by 35 different shipping companies.
For the first nine months of this year, Valenciaport moved a total throughput of 3.93 million TEU, down 5.35 per cent compared to the same period of 2019. But the port has expressed confidence that the year could end more positively compared to last year if recent volumes continue.
