Chinese shipbuilder Jiangnan Shipyard has signed contract with Singapore-based Petredec Holdings (Eastern) for the construction of three plus three 93,000 cu m VLGCs with dual fuel LPG propulsion.

The vessels, dubbed the “Panda Class 93k cbm”, have been designed and developed by Jiangnan Shipyard, with improved hull efficiency and lower energy consumption. The vessels will be equipped with the latest generation of LPG dual-fuelled engines. 

Phillip Harwood, Petredec fleet director, said “Petredec has always been at the forefront of new technology and this order continues our tradition of investing in the most efficient and environmentally friendly solution. We are convinced that using LPG as bunker fuel in the MAN ES LGIP engine is the best contributor to achieving the targeted 40% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030”.

Petredec and Jiangnan Shipyard had established close cooperation relationship for past ten years. Petredec previously ordered four 84,000 cu m VLGCs at Jiangnan Shipyard and twelve LEG/LPG vessels, according to Jiangnan Shipyard.

The first of the vessels will be delivered at the beginning of 2023.

Since from this year, Jiangnan Shipyard had inked eight newbuiling orders of VLGC, accounting for 57% of global VLGC order volume.
