SPOT rates for shipping containers from Asia to northern Europe (A-E) in the week ending last Friday edged down slightly to US$6,758 per FEU, according to the Ningbo Containerised Freight Index (NCFI).

The drop in rates was due to the "slight decline in demand" with the early closure of some factories in China for the Chinese New Year due to covid travel restrictions, reports UK's The Loadstar.
However, A-E rates according to the Freightos Baltic Index (FBX) were virtually unchanged at $7,827 per FEU.
Asia-west Mediterranean rates were $6,820 per FEU on the NCFI and $8,087 per FEU on the FBX.
The FBX reading from Asia to the US was stable at $4,286 per FEU and $5,716 per FEU respectively for the west and east coasts.
