Port of Long Beach container throughput down 1.8pc in May

THE Port of Long Beach container throughput is down 1.8 per cent to 890,989 TEU in May 2022, reports St Petersburg's PortNews.

May was the second busiest month for the Port of Long Beach, and its strongest month so far in 2022, said the report.
Imports decreased 1.7 per cent to 436,977 TEU and exports were down 12.6 per cent to 118,234 TEU. Empty containers moved through the port increased 2.6 per cent to 335,778 TEU.
The San Pedro Bay ports have seen a 40 per cent decline in over-staying cargo on the docks since the programme was announced October 25.
The Long Beach moved 4,172,366 TEU during the first five months of 2022, a 3.5 per cent increase from the same period in 2021.
The port handles trade valued at $200 billion annually and supports 2.6 million trade-related jobs across the nation, said the report.
