TAIWAN's Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp's (Yang Ming) newest 11,000 TEU containership YM Trillion, delivered at a ceremony held at Imabari Marugame Shipyard on September 21, will be deployed on the carrier's transpacific PN3 service.
The YM Trillion is chartered from Shoei Kisen Kaisha, Ltd, and built by Imabari Shipbuilding Co, Ltd, according to London's Port Technology.
The company ordered a total of fourteen 11,000 TEU newbuilds through long-term charter agreements with ship owners. According to Yang Ming, these eco-friendly newbuilds will enhance vessel deployment, as well fast-track fleet optimisation and reduce unit cost.
This type of vessel has a nominal capacity of 11,860 TEU and is equipped with 1,000 plugs for reefer containers. The containerships have also been equipped with scrubbers, water ballast treatment plant and alternative marine power system to adhere to environmental regulations.
Yang Ming said this type of vessel adopts the twin-island design to increase loading capacity and navigational visibility to ensure greater efficiency and safety, as well as increase energy saving and reduce overall emissions.
Their dimensions enable them to call at major ports worldwide and pass through the new Panama Canal with little restriction.
The TM Trillion will sail on Yang Ming's transpacific PN3 service with the following rotation: Hong Kong, Yantian, Shanghai, Pusan, Vancouver, Tacoma, Pusan, Kaohsiung and returning Hong Kong.
