INDIA and Russia are looking to expand their cooperation in container turnover, which is seen as a promising area of collaboration, reports St Petersburg PortNews.

Currently the container turnover between the two countries stands at 140,000 TEU annually.

However, projections indicate that by 2042, this figure is expected to increase 5.5 times to reach 760,000 TEU.

These optimistic forecasts were shared during a meeting at the Commercial Port of Vladivostok (CPV), which hosted a delegation from India led by Indian Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways secretary Rajesh Sinha, as reported by the stevedore's press centre.

The meeting with CPV signifies India's ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation with Russia in cargo transportation.

"Taking into account the current geopolitical situation, the Government of India attaches great importance to the development of shipping between the eastern ports of India and the Far East ports of Russia," said Mr Sinha.
