SEASPAN Corporation and its partners have unveiled the design of the 15,000 TEU ammonia-powered container vessel in Copenhagen at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Centre for Zero Carbon Shipping Accelerate Partner Summit, reports The Netherland's Offshore Energy.

Seaspan has been leading the design project in close collaboration with the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Centrer for Zero Carbon Shipping, A P Moller - Maersk, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and Foreship Ltd. Seaspan is a strategic partner to the Centre.

According to Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Centre, the project is connected to the SABRE Consortium, focusing on developing and demonstrating an ammonia supply chain in Singapore. The parties aim to commence ammonia bunkering by 2030.

The consortium comprises A P Moller - Maersk A/S, Fleet Management Limited, Keppel Offshore & Marine, Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, Sumitomo Corporation, ABS as well as Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) and Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

In 2022, SABRE received Approval in Principle (AIP) from ABS for ammonia bunkering vessel design.

Koji Endo, general manager of energy division, Sumitomo Corporation, said at the time: "We see ammonia as an important future fuel to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized society. Through the close collaboration among like-minded partners in the past year, we have gained not only AiP for the ammonia bunkering vessel but immense insights, both technical and commercial, on the key drivers and challenges to establish an end-to-end supply chain for ammonia bunkering."
