DP World's Brisbane Container Park breaks ground

Author:   Posttime:2023-12-27

DUBAI global port operator DP World officially broke ground for the new Brisbane Container Park, located at Australia's Port of Brisbane on Fisherman Islands, reports Manila's PortCalls.

The container park will be the newest addition to DP World's infrastructure in Brisbane, which includes the Fisherman's Island Terminal and the Brisbane Multimodal Terminal, DP World said in a statement.

Upon completion, the 10.4-hectare site will provide shippers and liners a one-stop-shop for storing and handling full and empty containers, said the report.

The project is in collaboration with the Port of Brisbane, logistics real estate specialist LOGOS, and construction firm McNab.

It is part of DO World's ongoing expansion of its logistics capabilities in Australia, facilitating end-to-end movement of goods from the factory floor to the customer door.

The Brisbane Container Park extends DP World's Depot Service offerings already present in Sydney and Melbourne. Notable features include Australia's first two High Empty Reefer Pre-Trip Facilities and MT Handlers capable of stacking up to eight containers.

Said DP World vice president Nicolaj Noes: "With this new facility, DP World will provide customers access to a holistic suite of supply chain services that can be tailored to their specific needs as they navigate a dynamic trade landscape and look to grow within Australia and beyond."

The expansion of DP World in Brisbane aligns with Queensland's advantageous position on Australia's eastern seaboard. The state's strong business environment and skilled workforce contribute to its A$100 billion (US$65 billion) export economy, representing over a fifth of the country's exports.

In Brisbane, DP World operates the Fisherman's Island Terminal, equipped with stacking cranes, an advanced operating system, and 900 metres of quay line.

Earlier this year, the terminal welcomed the 9,669-TEU CMA CGM Pelleas, the longest container ship to ever dock in Brisbane.

Adjacent to the container terminal is the Brisbane Multimodal Terminal (BMT), with road and rail links to the city and the rest of the region.

The dual-gauge rail link and location of the BMT make it possible to move large volumes of cargo into and out of the port by rail.
