Type, number of ships calling at Karachi's Qasim port

SHIPPING at Karachi's Port Qasim had five ships call - the 10,000-TEU Seaspan Ganges, the 4,252-TEU SpilKartini, 50,338-dwt tanker Nord Vanquish, the 74,908-dwt Kamome Victoria and the 56,564-dwt bulker Sheng Ping Hai, reports the Associated Press of Pakistan.

The ships were carrying containers, edible oils, gasoline and coal, berthed at the container terminal, liquid terminal, oil terminal and the bulk terminal on December 21.



Meanwhile three more ships, Sheng De Hai, Estia and Silver Eleaner also arrived at outer-anchorage to unload coal and edible oil.



A total of eight ships were engaged at Qasim berths during the day with two, the Seaspan Ganges and the Spil Kartini leaving the next day.



Cargo volume of 150,799 tonnes, comprising 106,260 tonnes imports cargo and 44,539 tonnes export cargo carried in 2,040 containers with 603 TEU of imports and 1,437 TEU of exports was handled in 24 hours.



There are seven ships at Outer Anchorage of Port Qasim, out of them three ships, Nadeen, Silver Eleaner and Sheng De Hai and three more ships, the Santa Viola, Chemroad Hawk and Golar Arctic scheduled to load/offload cement, palm oil, coal, chemicals, containers and LNG are expected to take berths while three more containerships, the X-Press Salween, Meratus Jayakarta and MSC Singapore-IV are due to arrive.
