THE first staff of the New Energy Taskforce (NET) has begun working at the Port of Rotterdam to assist businesses in dealing with grid congestion, reports London's Port Technology.

The Taskforce, launched in partnership with grid the operators TenneT and Stedin, is chaired by Roger Knubben, who has over 25 years of expertise in transition and strategy, especially in the energy industry.



The project is part of a larger programme established in late 2023 to address congestion in the port and neighbouring regions.



In addition to speedier grid development and enhanced demand forecasting, the programme includes measures for more flexible power usage.



To encourage more flexible power offtake, grid operators will launch separate flex tenders later this year. Furthermore, the Taskforce will reportedly support companies in developing broader solutions that can contribute to flexibility in power use.



Taskforce director, Roger Knubben, said: We will work with the companies to look at the possibilities within their own site, but we think there is also a lot of potential for solutions at cluster level. Consider the design of energy hubs, where companies work together to coordinate the generation, storage, conversion and consumption of energy.



In January 2024, the Port of Rotterdam announced that Hanna Stelzel will assume the role of Director Containers under the commercial department.
