THE Port of Abidjan saw the arrival of the 14,800-TEU CMA CGM Scandola, marking the port's first reception of a containership powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), reports the American Journal of Transportation.
The ship is 366 metres long and 51.11 metres abeam and operates on CMA CGM's West Africa Express (WAX) service, directly connecting West Africa with China, South-East Asia and India.
The arrival of this LNG-powered containership at the Port of Abidjan aligns with the strategic vision of Port Autonome d'Abidjan director Hien Yacouba.
It underscores the port authority's commitment to sustainable environmental management, demonstrated by its attainment of ISO 14001:2015 environmental certification in 2018.
