ONE sets record with 22,202 TEU loaded aboard one ship

ONCE again, Ocean Network Express (ONE) has broken records by loading the most containers onto a single vessel, reports Fort Lauderdale's Maritime Executive.

The latest addition to its fleet, the Liberian flagged 24,136-TEU ONE Intelligence, surpassed its sister ship by loading more containers during its recent embarkation in Asia before commencing its voyage to Europe earlier this month.

Freshly delivered from the shipyard, the ONE Intelligence marks the fifth consecutive record achieved by ONE in just over three months.

During its loading operation in Asia, with a stopover in Singapore from January 12 to 14, the vessel was loaded with an estimated 22,202 TEU, calculated based on the TEU scale as the ships typically carry 2X size FEU boxes.

Deployed on the FE3 service connecting Europe and Asia, the AIS signal of the ONE Intelligence currently indicates its deviation from the usual route via the Red Sea and Suez Canal to Europe as it rounds South Africa.

The vessel is the final addition to the six-strong fleet introduced by ONE to the route since June 2023.

Measuring 1,312 feet (399.95 metres) in length and 201 feet (61.4 metres) in width, each ship is registered in Liberia and operated by a crew of 34.

ONE highlights that these ships are designed to enhance container handling efficiency, boasting a capacity rating of 24,136 TEU.

Unique design features, including a bow screen, facilitate the loading of containers further forward onto the mooring deck.

Additionally, the vessels incorporate innovative technology to mitigate brittle crack propagation in ultra-thick, high-strength steel plates, contributing to increased loading efficiency.

Each ship offers 24 rows of containers and can accommodate up to 2,000 reefer units.

The series of record-breaking achievements began with the loading of 21,954 TEU in Singapore on November 11 and 12 by ONE Integrity.

Subsequently, ONE Innovation, the first vessel of its class to join the fleet in June 2023, surpassed this record with a reported loading of 22,000 TEU in Singapore on December 14.

Following suit, the ONE Ingenuity achieved a load of 22,071 TEU, followed by another record-breaking load of 22,159 TEU by the ONE Inspiration.
