Yangzijiang Shipbuilding inks US$78m container feeders contract

CHINA's Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has signed a shipbuilding contract for four 1,000TEU container feeders worth a total of UD$77.75 million (CNY392 million).
According to a company statement, the container feeders measure 139.9 metres in length, 25 metres in width and eight metres in draft, which is said to take into consideration the water and shape conditions of several major ports in Zhejiang Province.
The company said that compared to ocean liners, the design of these feeders will give priority to loading capacity over speed. With a maximum loading capacity of 15,000 tonnes, the 1,000TEU feeder significantly reduces fuel consumption per unit, reports Singapore Business Review.
