Chinese major container port volumes hit by typhoon in late July Photo: SIPG

Container volume at eight major Chinese ports declined 11.2% in late July, as several ports temporarily shut down operations due to typhoon Yanhua.

Container export volumes dropped 12.3% while the domestic volume also declined 8%.
Cargo throughput at major coastal hub ports declined 14.5% year-on-year while the international trade cargo throughput dropped 13%.

Crude oil shipments at major coastal ports slightly dropped 1.8% year on year. The port of Rizhao posted a substantial growth rate of over 90%.  
Metal ore shipments at major Chinese ports declined 11.4% while the port inventory increased 16.9%.
In late July, the port throughput at three major Yangtze river ports, Nanjing, Wuhan and Chongqing declined 6.9%, while the container volume increased 8.5%.
Affected by the typhoon and heavy rainfall in July, cargo throughput at major Chinese coastal ports declined 6.7% year on year. The container volume at eight major ports dropped 1.1%.
