KRIBI Multipurpose Terminal (KMT), operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc (ICTSI) in Cameroon, has experienced a notable boost in productivity since implementing eco hoppers earlier this year, reports the American Journal of Transportation.

Starting January 2022, KMT has successfully managed 21 dry bulk vessels, handling 600,000 tons of raw materials such as clinker, gypsum, limestone and petcoke, essential for cement production.



By utilising eco hoppers, KMT has significantly improved the efficiency of handling these materials, resulting in a remarkable increase in productivity. Moreover, the implementation of eco hoppers has effectively reduced dust emissions, enhancing the safety of cargo handling operations for both workers and the environment.



On April 12, KMT achieved a significant operational milestone by handling an impressive 17,015 tons of clinker within a 24-hour period. This accomplishment translates to a throughput of 709 tons per hour, showcasing the enhanced efficiency of their operations.



Eco hoppers play a crucial role in capturing airborne dust emitted during the unloading of vessels, creating a safer work environment for the terminal personnel involved in the operations.



"The eco hoppers enable us to operate more efficiently, leading to this milestone. Aside from the productivity benefits, we also embrace the positive impact they have on the safety of our personnel and the environment," said KMT chief operations officer Poul Johansen.
