China Merchants reports throughput of 122 million TEU in 2020

HONG KONG based but mainland owned China Merchant Ports reported a record-high 122 million TEU for 2020, reports Colchester's Seatrade Maritime News.
The first quarter of 2020 saw container throughput volume of China Merchants Ports down 5.6 per cent compared to the year prior. The decline was a direct result of the Covid crisis.
Container cargo volumes rebounded from the second quarter and achieved 122 million TEU at the end of 2020, an increase of 7.8 per cent.
The company's mainland China ports posted 85.75 million TEU container volume, while Hong Kong and Taiwan posted 7.14 million TEU and overseas terminals posted 28.78 million TEU.
