CMA CGM on top of the container charter tables

Author:   Posttime:2023-03-30

FRENCH shipping giant, CMA CGM is topping the liner chartering tables with more than 20 per cent of all charter fixtures reported in 2023 linked with the Marseille-based liner, according to brokers Braemar.
CMA CGM's latest target has been the 2015-built, 9,612 TEU Akadimos, which Braemar reports that the liner has taken at a "firm" rate of US$47,250. Fifty-one per cent of CMA CGM's 3.4 million TEU fleet is now chartered in, according to data from Alphaliner, reports Singapore's Splash 247.
On the container charter markets, Braemar noted in its latest weekly box report: "The activity level continues to be high which has led to increasing charter rates for specific segments and a 12-month period is becoming the new normal."
Maersk Broker, meanwhile, reported: "Prompt tonnage across all segments is very scarce, and we expect TC rates to continue their firming trend and average periods to carry on rising."
